Camping in Colorado (does it get any better than that?)

This post was written on July 15th, 2011

We are back from our vacation to Colorado… second vacation there for me and Girl. This time the five of us went and we camped for a few days which was awesome! Yes, we sleep in a tent. We didn’t rent a cabin, use a camper, or an RV. But we did use air mattresses inside the tent so that was kind of like cheating. Oh, and there were showers, but no fixing hair or makeup… which was awesome!

Breakfast was made by the propane grill since we were under a Level 3 fire ban (no bonfire… boo hoo!) And we had hot dogs for dinner every single night. Good thing I remembered to pack lots of fresh fruit in the ice chest! Sugar Daddy and I even attempted to make coffee using the enamel cook pot, but it just took too long. I was so happy to have some strong hot coffee after three days of missing out.

We spent almost a full day making rafts out of twigs, grass, flower leaves, bark, and other miscellaneous nature debris. Each of us made one by carving the branches, learning to make tight knots with grass and stems, and adding enough weight to prevent the raft from getting stuck. Then we raced! And guess who won the first race?! Yep… it was me! The kids all questioned the design of my raft (more like a triangle than a square or rectangle), but it worked!

Our campsite was amazing with a creek running right next to it. We fell asleep every night to the sound of rushing water. Love! There were trees surrounding our site and I found myself in constant awe. While Sugar Daddy and the kids went off to play, I set up my chair by the stream and read some Anne of Green Gables. It was perfect.

Isn’t that shirt so funny?! My husband bought it for himself while we were in CA a few years ago but ended up giving it to me because I wore it all of the time! It’s the softest shirt! And it gets a lot of laughs from people. I’ll forget I’m wearing it and wonder why everyone is staring at my chest. LOL!

That looks like a lot of fun! My uncle lived near Steamboat Springs for a few years and loved it! He always talked about how pretty the state is and by your pictures it sure is.
