It’s That Time Again (Time to Think About Moving Out of the Midwest)

I wrote about Sugar Daddy’s allergies last year. They are awful; poor guy. And I used his allergies as the reason we should move, say, to some place like Colorado? Or maybe Arizona? You see that huge red spot on the left? That is his allergic reaction to grass. Awful isn’t it?! His eyes have been tomato red for the last few weeks, and I wake in the night to him sniffing and sneezing or just trying to breathe. Because of his job he can’t take the strong allergy medications; he has to suffer through it. He doesn’t complain, but I know he is miserable.

Are you a seasonal allergy sufferer? If so, where do you live? I’ll make sure and check that place off of my list of potential homes for us in the future. ;)

growing up in florida and mississippi for twenty years, i was in allergy hell. every single childhood photo, my eyes are red and puffy:/ then living in maryland, it was still bad, but i managed better. north dakota has proved decent and refreshing! but i don’t want to live here much longer;) arizona or california sound delightful to me!!!
so sorry for your sweet sugar daddy-i feel his pain:/

We are kind of limited in choices because of his job, but Phoenix is one of them. I’ve never been there but something about the area is intriguing to me. He is pushing for Dallas because he’s a Dallas Cowboys fan (rolling eyes). But I hear seasonal allergies are awful there.

@SugarMama, dallas is humid but very nice-would be awful for allergies! phoenix is amazing, only been twice, both brief visits, but wow! really cool! we are actually hoping to visit there soon. for some strange reason flights from here to there are incredibly cheap;)
(first, our travel money is going to long beach-blog sugar, holla!!)

    i’m a lurker…. :)

We live in the Vancouver, BC area and I have to say grass will be bad anywhere you go. Especiall this time of year with having to maintain it.

Is there no other option for an allergy pill? I have found that sometimes one will work better then the other.
Also my brother and sister are severly allergic to grass as well and they get allergy shots once a week that help alot!

He is looking into the weekly shots. That’s a huge commitment as he’ll need to get them for 5 years! He can only take nasal spray because of his job. He can’t take anything that would remotely cause drowsiness. But, you are right, unless we live in the desert he’ll probably have some sort of allergy issue.

Oh no!!!!!!! That’s awful! It looks just miserable!

I’m in AR, I don’t have allergies, but I have cousins who have them BAD!!! So don’t move here, the pollen will kill you!

    That looks painful!

I’ve never had a problem with allergies and I’ve lived in Northern California my whole life :)

I don’t have allergies but my mom does and she lives in Sac, Ca. Don’t move there.

I don’t suffer from allergies but as an former Arizonean (is that the right word), I say go for it!

Hello! I know exactly how you feel. My husband is the same way. He is in the Air Force and we have no control over where we live. We are currently in Hawaii and he is always “stuffed up.” Have seems to be that way everywhere he goes, not matter what to climate is. Poor guys and, he too, never mentions how miserable he is! I suffer from mild allergies from whatever they have in Hawaii and Zyrtec helps. I do know that most allergy meds cause drowsiness and I take mine at night. Has he tried that? I hope this helps a little and hope he finds something that helps.

He is an air traffic controller so he can’t take anything with a antihistamine… which is pretty much anything that works for allergies. He might start trying the weekly shots, but it’s a 5 year commitment. Living in Hawaii sounds wonderful, by the way!

    @SugarMama,
So even the products like Zyrtec or Allegra? Those don’t make you sleepy. And I take benadry every night and it tends to help a *little* during the day.
Funny, I was just talking to my perfectionist grandson Sunday. We were painting a room and I told him very few jobs required perfection, like neurosurgeons and air traffic controllers!

He takes Zyrtec, but it barely touches the allergies. He gets some relief, but has to practically triple the dosage. He starts the allergy shots soon… I hope they help him!

oh my gosh poor guy! I think Arizona would be a wonderful choice for you guys; not too far from CA and the houses there are really cheap right now :) And I don’t think many people are allergic to cacti?

Oh, and I meant to also say, don’t bother moving to GA! Terrible here!
