Women Living Their Dream Jobs

This post was written on April 10th, 2011

Are you where you thought you would be? When you were little what did you dream of becoming? For me, I went through several stages: a teacher, therapist, writer, photographer, white water rafting guide, and Alzheimer’s specialist. I also knew I wanted to be a wife and mother. Today I am a wife and mother and I also run a daycare for school employees in my home. While it’s not my dream job, it pays the bills, allows me to work from home, and the children are adorable (although there are those days). But I know I have gifts and talents that could be used elsewhere.

I put off finishing my degree several times. I didn’t put it off due to my having kids or our several (count 11) moves over 13 years. I put off graduating because I couldn’t decide what I REALLY wanted to do. And I’ve always admired people, especially other mothers, that DO follow their passion. The women that DO make their dreams a reality and use their gifts to share with others. And that is what this series is all about.

For the next few weeks, beginning tomorrow, I’ll be posting about women that inspire me, and I KNOW they’ll inspire you as well. They are women that are living their dream job. Hopefully you will find that spark inside of you to fulfill a dream of your own!

I have a Spanish & Latin American studies degree & have a spot reserved for me at the university in town for the masters program in social work so I can be a counselor. There is not a SINGLE Spanish speaking counselor in our area & we are the state with the fastest growing Latino population in the US.

That being said….I want to be at home with my son. I would regret that more than not graduating with my masters. I did a year of my masters while I was pregnant & then somehow it all worked out for me to be at home. I figure that’s where I’m called to be at this point in my life.

The amazing thing about women is that we are never afraid to recreate ourselves at any age. Lots of VERY successful women started amazing careers at older ages. Like Carolina Herrera raised 4 children, then became of the world’s largest couture fashion designers. Julia Child started her career later in life.

So….I’m not giving up, just postponing it!

This week is going to be fun!

wow. love this intro, love reading about everything you’ve tried already in life.

i am enlessly fascinated by this topic, knowing which passions to pursue, which to put away for a little while, and how to mix it with our greatest passion of giving our love and life to our families.

love Kate’s comment too. What great reminders.
