Sharing Your Gifts
This post was written on January 12th, 2011“When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say, ‘I used everything you gave me’.” -Erma Bombeck
I have been really excited about this project. I hesitated starting it in January since so many other blogs have new things going on as well, but I wanted this to be a year long event. Here is an explanation of “Sharing Your Gifts”. It’s really quite simple.
We all have gifts/talents. Whether it be crafting, baking, photography, writing, speaking, motivating, etc. And I believe the reason we possess those gifts are to use them for the benefit of others. But I haven’t been very good at doing that lately. And I haven’t been doing very well at using ALL of my gifts/talents.
So that is where this weekly blog project comes into play. The idea is every week I will do something using one (or more) of my talents to help/benefit someone else. And I will come back here and write about it, post a picture, etc. This isn’t just about crafting & baking, although those things are awesome! Some people posses the gift of motivation. Did you say or do something this past week to motivate someone in obtaining one of their goals? Other talents include writing & photography; how did you use those to benefit someone else? Did you take a picture of a neighbor with his son or daughter and give it to him? Did you write a post that somehow helped someone else?
The point is to make this intentional. I realize that there are some incredible blogs out there that help people every day with tutorials. But make it intentional. Consciously be thinking of someone that you are specifically reaching out to. Then come back here on Wednesday and link up to your story, picture, etc about how you shared your gift.
Here are my gifts/talents that I will be using to benefit others this year:
- Baking
- Writing
- Encouraging Words
- Organizing (not to be confused with decorating)
- Photography (not to be confused with professional photography, I simply have the gift of always having my camera available and capturing moments)
- Research
- Laughter
Go out and share your gifts! Grab the button if you want, but it’s not necessary. Tell others about it. This isn’t anything to stress about, just simply making a CONSCIENCE effort to help someone else. (And by someone else, it can most certainly be the people that you are around the most; children, spouse, boyfriend, mother, etc)
Come back next Wednesday and Share Your Gifts!
