On the 3rd Day of Christmas: Making an Effort

This post was written on December 3rd, 2010

I’m fashion challenged. I’m also body challenged. As you can see from the picture, for my medium height I have long legs. Do you see where my hand is resting on my waist? So between the top of my pants and the bottom of my bra it’s just a few inches. I have a difficult time figuring out how to wear things on this body. For instance, this sweater, I love it because it’s practical for me working in my home and it’s warm. But it makes me look thick. Thick around an already thick waist.

But I’m making an effort. I’m not wearing sweat pants and a oversized sweat shirt. I’m wearing my new scarf from Garnet Hill that my mom got me for my birthday (I LOVE it), my Uggs, leggings from American Eagle (I don’t necessarily like), and a plain long sleeved GAP shirt underneath. I have a bit of makeup on. My hair is not fixed…. I failed in that department this morning.

The funny thing is I love the idea of fashion. I read a few fashion blogs, subscribe to Marie Claire and InStyle, and look at clothing websites on a regular basis. I just don’t know how to make it work. I’m not teeny tiny. I’m average. If I were teeny tiny I’m sure those leggings wouldn’t be so stretched out. I’m sure the sweater would be defined by a small waist. But I’m trying to work with what I got instead of forcing this body to be smaller.

So, today, I’m making an effort. My effort may seem sloppy to most of you… but I do daycare in my house., so it works for me.

Happy 3rd day of Christmas! Tell me, what do YOU wear on a regular basis? What is your go to outfit? (And how can I wear this sweater so I don’t look so bulky?)

You are adorable and never in a million years would I say or think “thick waist” looking at you.

I wish I had made it! My mother got it for me as a birthday gift… she got it from Garnet Hill if you’re interested.
